Shaman. Cang Xin & Nacho Zubelzu, curated by Susana Sanz and Monica Alvarez Careaga, emerges from several simultaneities in Zubelzu and Cang’s personal and artistic careers. The artists share both a generation and an origin, which is cultural, rural and peripheral: the Spanish region of Campoo and the Chinese inland region of Mongolia.
Two unpublished sculptural installations, which reflect the opposition between matter and spirit, stand out among the works displayed. The Golden Cage (2016) of Nacho Zubelzu is made with heterogeneous gilded materials. Mystic taboo (2016), Cang Xin’s new work, depicts two pairs of fierce silver dragons.
The project includes an extensive coexistence of the artists in Beijing, where they worked towards the creation of a joint performance titled “Rock, Paper, Scissors” carried out on the Great Wall of China.
