Invited by Astarté Gallery, Monica Alvarez Careaga has curated one of the exhibitions belonging to the project “a3bandas”. The exhibition, titled Girls Just Want To Have Fun, brings together a small group of artists (Catarina Branco, Álvaro González, Arancha Goyeneche, Laura López Balza, Nuria Mora and Mike Swaney) whose work shows a “high playful density”. Since the pleasure of the art construction work: collages, prints and other graphics and textiles, manual and repetitive, to visual delight from an urgent, hybrid and dynamic painting … Heterogeneous resources for works that highlight the creative procedures and visuality.
The “A3Bandas” proposes to Spanish galleries in Madrid and Barcelona to break during the months of April and May, with his usual schedule and invite an independent curator to design an exhibition for their spaces with artists not represented by them.
“Girls Just Want To Have Fun” has been recognized by the public as the most valued show at A3Bandas 2014. Following a count of more than 1,200 ballots cast in the 29 participating art galleries in Madrid and Barcelona, the show won the Audience Award, which has been sponsored by Absolut
